The new special exhibition at the Audi Museum Mobile focuses on aluminum. Under the title "Highlights - The splendor of technology", visitors are presented with the more than 100-year history of this material and its diverse uses - at Audi and beyond. Highlights of the exhibition at the Audi Museum Mobile include two exclusive works by the artist Camill Leberer. The show will be on display from December 6, 2017 to March 4, 2018.
Since the beginning of automotive history, aluminum has been an important material in automobile construction. Audi company founder August Horch already used it in his first engine and transmission designs. The material was also used early and often by Audi's predecessor brands, for example in the Audi Type K from 1923. The Audi brand set a milestone in the history of aluminum bodies and lightweight construction in 1994 with the Audi Space Frame (ASF) design. The Audi Space Frame body has been in the Audi A8 for four generations and is a central part of the special exhibition.
These are joined by four cars with rare high-gloss all-aluminum bodies - above all the AVUS quattro study, which Audi presented at the 1991 motor show in Tokyo, and the ASF concept car shown at the IAA in Frankfurt in 1993. This is an Audi A8 in which the supporting structure and the co-supporting body panels are made entirely of aluminum. Also on display is the second Audi model with an Audi Space Frame: an Audi A2 from 2002. The Audi R8 5.2 quattro show car from 2009 is also likely to attract a great deal of interest from visitors. The show is rounded off with explanations of aluminum as a material, as well as a wealth of small exhibits that illustrate how many different items aluminum is used in - from gramophones and tablet computers to chocolate packaging.
Artist Camill Leberer designed two works of art exclusively for the special exhibition. Audi apprentices produced the two aluminum works according to his plans. At the same time, the "Audi Art Space" in the walkway of the Audi Museum Mobile is showing more than 30 works on paper by the artist. Camill Leberer is the ninth artist to present his works in the Audi Kunstraum. In collaboration with the Ingolstadt Foundation for Concrete Art and Design, works by the 17 foundation artists have been on display in this format in changing exhibitions since 2011.
The Audi Museum Mobile is open on weekdays from 9 am to 6 pm and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10 am to 4 pm.
