It's not every day that a 1989 Sauber-Mercedes C9 comes under the hammer. Group C sports cars are becoming increasingly popular, especially because more and more historic racing events are being held for these vehicles. The C9 is certainly one of the most interesting Group C prototypes.
According to Coys, the car on offer comes from the Sauber-Mercedes museum collection. It is equipped with the M117-C9 engine and a modern engine electronics system and has FIA papers.
At the same auction at Fontwell House in Arundel (West Sussex) on September 7, 2017, a Jaguar XK 120 with aluminum bodywork from 1950 (estimated value £ 200,000 to 250,000) and a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster from 1960 with 71,000 km on the clock will also be auctioned. The SL was parked unused from 1973 to 2001 and was mechanically restored by the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in 2001/2002.
More information about the auction can be found on the Coys website.
