The stars from Disney and Pixar's Cars will be reunited at the Rennsport Reunion 7 from September 28 to October 1 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The life-size Sally Carrera and Lightning McQueen are normally at home in the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart and the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. For the event, the two museums borrowed Sally and Lightning to bring them together once again.
Reunited after ten years
Jay Ward, Creative Director of Franchise at Pixar Animation Studios says: "A motorsport celebration without Lightning McQueen and Sally Carrera - that's not possible.
The life-size cars were created in 2006 for the premiere of the Cars movie. Sally was made from a real 996 generation 911 and actually drives. Sally and Lightning got to see a lot of the world. However, they have been far apart for the past ten years. It's wonderful that they are now coming together again at the Rennsport Reunion."
Both Jay Ward and Cars production designer Bob Pauley (who designed Sally more than 20 years ago) will participate in Racing Reunion 7.
911 Sally Special is back in the spotlight
The 2022 Porsche "911 Sally Special" will also return to the spotlight after its record sales last year. Thanks to its generous owner, the one-off will also be on display at Rennsport Reunion. The special model was created in collaboration between Pixar and Porsche and achieved a sale price of 3.6 million dollars at a Sotheby's auction last year. The proceeds were donated to two charities: Girls Inc. and the UNHCR, which provide assistance and educational support to young girls across America and help children and families in Ukraine.
Sally and Lightning will be on display at the center of the Rennsport Reunion, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with the two beloved characters.
