The revival of the Rally Gotthard from September 1 to 4, 2016 will be postponed until late summer 2017. Unfortunately, the organizing committee was unable to obtain all the necessary permits in time.
It is exactly thirty-three years since the engines were last started for a rally on the Gotthard massif. For this reason, the OC around Bernhard Brägger and Martin Kolb set themselves the goal of reviving this legendary motorsport event. After preparations had gone according to plan, those responsible were confronted with an unexpected problem in the past few weeks that made the planned schedule impossible and could not be resolved in the remaining two months until the rally.
For logistical and safety reasons, it was out of the question to hold a "mini-rally" on a shortened route with some of the existing permits and the timetable that had been agreed. In addition, such an emergency solution would have been unsatisfactory for the participants and would not have met the demands of the initiators of this important event.
The OC Rallye Gotthard regrets the postponement by one year, but is convinced that it is acting in the interests of all those involved so that the 11th edition in late summer 2017 will be a lasting experience for the participating teams and the hopefully numerous rally fans.
Prologue with historic vehicles
However, the region around Andermatt and Sedrun will not be completely quiet on September 3, 2016. A prologue with historic vehicles will revive the history of motorsport on the Gotthard and offer a foretaste of the 11th Rallye Gotthard 2017.
