From February 2 to 6, 2022, many classic car enthusiasts will once again make their way to Paris to visit the Rétromobile. Every year, the classic car fair in the city on the Seine surprises visitors with special shows in a class of their own, and 2022 will be no exception.
The motor wizard Amédée Gordini
From the 1930s until his death on May 25, 1979, Amédée Gordini was one of the driving forces in French motorsport. He was not called the "Sorcerer" ("Le Sorcier") by journalist Charlex Faroux for nothing.
Nine cars from Gordini's oeuvre will be on display in a special show at the Rétromobile:
- Gordini Spider SImca 5 from 1937
- Gordini Barquette Simca 8 from 1939
- Gordini 37 S Type 24 S from 1953
- Gordini 35 Type 16 Formula 1 from 1954
- Gordini 43 Type 31S Formula 1 from 1954
- Gordini 42 Type 32 from 1956
- Renault Dauphine Gordini from 1957
- Renault 8 Gordini from 1964
- Renault 12 Gordini from 1970
Gordini was born in Bazzano (Italy) in 1899 and discovered his love of mechanics early in life. He worked at and with Weber, Maserati, Isotta-Fraschini, Bugatti and Hispano-Suiza. In 1925 he became French, and in 1934 he began working with Henri-Théodore Pigozzi and Simca. Gordini also discovered Juan-Manuel Fangio and many other talented racing drivers.
He only retired from racing in 1957, having contested over 600 races with his cars. He then continued to work at Renault for around 17 years, and most of the Régie's fast vehicles benefited from his skills.
The special exhibition is organized together with the Musée National de l'Automobile, Collection Schlumpf and Christian Huet.
