The international trade fair industry has been hit particularly hard by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. Cancellations and postponements have been a regular occurrence since the spring, and some industry platforms have been moved online without further ado. Now the dynamic development has forced the organizers of Stuttgart's Retro Classics to change the date once again. The new date of the world's largest trade fair for driving culture is thus moving to the second weekend in July, more precisely to July 8-11, 2021.
A dramatic turnaround
"The already tense situation has changed dramatically in recent weeks," says Andreas Herrmann, Managing Director of Retro Messen GmbH. "Out of a sense of responsibility towards our visitors, exhibitors and employees, we therefore have to postpone the date for Retro Classics Stuttgart once again with a heavy heart. It is the order of the day, as the current situation unfortunately leaves no other alternative."
New possibilities
On a weekend at the beginning of July - before the "summer break" and the start of the vacations in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg - the doors will finally open again for dealers, collectors, enthusiasts and fans of classic cars. This could be understood quite literally, as the expected higher temperatures offer different scope for creativity than the winter months. It is conceivable, for example, that "the trade fair could be oriented more towards the outdoors and open up more towards Rothauspark," says Herrmann. "Getting there in your own classic car will also become much more attractive and gain even more recreational value as a summer excursion."
Flexibility as a great strength
According to Herrmann, Retro Classics Stuttgart is characterized by the fact that "as a coherent but flexible overall package, it has always been able to react to changing trends and conditions at an early stage and always reinvent itself a little," he says. "I therefore continue to firmly believe that the 2021 edition will also be a complete success for everyone involved - and perhaps even a very special 'summer retro' that will be remembered fondly for a long time to come."
