What do coffee grinders, mandolins and vintage cars have to do with each other? Not much, actually. But RM is bringing these objects of desire together at an online auction. RM Open Roads February 2022 runs from February 16 to 23, 2022 and will see 25 classic cars go under the hammer virtually alongside almost 100 non-automotive items, including the aforementioned items as well as a Ferrari F50 manual and a McLaren F1 tool kit.
As always with the "Open Roads" auctions, the lots are scattered all over the world. As a result, you may have to transport your purchased classic from Goslar (Germany), Castle Rock (USA) or Dubai (UAE). After all, RM has limited itself to two currencies, EUR and USD.
The 25 cars are on average almost exactly 50 years old and together worth almost USD 2.5 million. This means that almost USD 100,000 is expected per vehicle, although some cars start at USD 25,000 (lower estimate).
A Dodge as the most valuable car
The 1970 Dodge Challenger RT/440 Six Pack convertible is listed by RM with an estimated value of USD 230,000 to 260,000, a value that certainly arouses curiosity. Unfortunately, not too much is revealed about the car, but the color is certainly mouth-watering.
If you like high-horsepower Americans, you might also want to take a look at the open Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS 396 Convertible from 1969, which is looking for a new owner in bright yellow and with 60,000 miles on the clock.
325 hp is certainly an announcement, but so is the asking price of USD 100,000 to 130,000.
For off-road use: Citroën 2 CV Sahara
A four-wheel-drive duck from 1964 is available for sale in Germany. Two wheels are driven by a 425 cc engine assigned to each wheel.
Only 694 of these all-wheel drive 2CVs were built between 1958 and 1971. The off-road duck is now expected to cost EUR 80,000 to 100,000.
For the next rally: Opel Kadett C
Opel Kadett Cs do not often appear at international auctions. The car on offer, which is located in Trouville-sur-Mer in France, is modeled on Walter Röhrl's rally car and bears the lettering of the Opel Euro dealer team.
It is prepared for rallies and is said to be good for 180 hp with two Weber carburetors. Fans of originality are unlikely to be happy with this car, but perhaps even more so for those who are not. However, they must expect to pay between EUR 60,000 and 80,000.
For those who prefer blue and white but still want something racing-like, we recommend the BMW 2002 from 1971 (for EUR 60,000 to 80,000).
For the sunny days ahead: Mercedes-Benz E320 Cabriolet
An open-top white Mercedes-Benz E320 comes from the sunshine state of Florida. With around 42,000 miles, it has just been properly run in and, typical of an American delivery, the car is quite extensively equipped.
With an estimated value of USD 25,000 to 30,000, it is of course up to the buyer to decide whether an import is worthwhile.
Some super classics
The offer includes some classics that are frequently offered at auctions, such as a Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 from 1969, its successor 365 GTC/4 from 1972, two Jaguar E-Types, a Pagoda and the 6.9-liter 450 SEL from Mercedes-Benz, a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 from 1991 and a Maserati Sebring from 1966.
And that's only about half of the super classics.
The oldest car in the auction, at least virtually, should not go unmentioned, as the Benz Patent-Motorwagen was built in 1886. However, the example on offer is somewhat younger and a replica, but costs "only" USD 75,000 to 85,000.
Further information and many pictures of the individual vehicles can be found on the RM/Sotheby's website.
