There was great enthusiasm among young drivers when the first rally for young drivers was launched last year. So much so that the RAID Young Raiders Challenge will be held for the second time on the weekend of May 5-6, 2018.
From Dübendorf, the route leads through eastern Switzerland to Lucerne and from there the next morning through the Emmental valley to Toffen near Bern. The award ceremony takes place here in the classic car gallery.
The aims of the event are to pass on to young drivers an interest in the historic cultural heritage of the automobile, to convey new safety aspects at the TCS Traffic and Safety Center in Emmen and finally to introduce young drivers, who are often already familiar with the most remote beaches in the world, to the beauty and diversity of Switzerland.
Partner of the event is Volkswagen. The brand is celebrating its 70th anniversary on the Swiss market this year. The Young Raiders Challenge therefore has its own category for young rally drivers competing in a VW Beetle. And the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne is hosting a big VW Beetle get-together.
Of course, the rally itself is brand-neutral and open to youngtimers! Classic cars built up to 1988 and younger cars built up to 1998 are permitted, but the drivers must not be older than 35. There is no exception!
