RAID Suisse-Paris will take place again in 2013 and the traditional event has come up with many new ideas.
The Pantheon, a unique institution for historic automobiles for the past five years, is at the center of this year's RAID events around Basel.
Start with the 17th Concours d'Elégance in Basel
They begin on Wednesday, August 21 with the 17th Concours d'Elégance Basel. The 60 or so most beautiful veteran cars will start in the Pantheon, can be admired from 4 p.m. in Freie Strasse in the heart of the city and then drive past the jury in a défilé across the market square. As pace cars: the latest luxury cars and sports cars. Partner of the Concours d'Elégance is Bank CIC (Switzerland), the event is sponsored by Pro Innerstadt.
The cars compete in three categories: A) Years of construction up to 1939, B) Years of construction 1945 to 1970 and C) Swiss bodies / Swiss cars. The cars will arrive at the Pantheon from 2 p.m., followed by the transfer to Freie Strasse, where the exhibition and cortège past the jury will take place on the market square.
The Concours d'Elégance awards ceremony will take place at 7.30 p.m. in the Pantheon, followed by the Driver's Night, a social dinner for car and classic car enthusiasts.
The RAID Prologue Zurich-Basel
The already well-known prologue, which takes a detour from Zurich to Basel, will be held in the evening and at night for the first time. The arrival of these veterans is eagerly awaited in Basel. The new mode seems to be popular: ″Our expectations regarding the number of participants and the exciting brands and models have been exceeded,″ the organizer announces.
Start of the rally on August 22, 2013
Thursday, August 22 is the big RAID day. From 12:30 p.m., over a hundred historic cars will set off on the traditional, almost 1000 km long rally to Paris. This year's destinations are Nancy and Reims, with a detour to Belgium before finally reaching the Château de Chantilly in the Ile-de-France, the actual destination of the 23rd RAID Suisse-Paris.
The oldest vehicle in 2013 is an English Sunbeam from 1924. And for the first time in the history of the RAID, a participant is coming from Paris to Basel in his Porsche to start the rally return journey to his home town from here.
The closing date for registration for the RAID Suisse-Paris is June 30, 2013, so anyone who still wants to take part should take their chance now.
