From September 2 to 4, 2022, the Engadin Airport near St. Moritz will once again be dominated by acceleration races. Solitude GmbH is organizing the "Kilomètre Lancé" under the umbrella of the "International St. Moritz Automobile Week" based on a historical model.
The first acceleration races took place on the nearby Shellstrasse back in 1929.
Preparations are in full swing. The entries already received show that the Kilomètre Lancé will be a very special journey through time, with vehicles ranging from the "Blitzenbenz" built in 1909 to the modern hypercar.
His Royal Highness accelerates in the CSL
His Royal Highness Leopold Prince of Bavaria, the only representative of the German aristocracy in motor racing, is eagerly awaited.
The successful BMW and Porsche driver has always been a fan of high-revving engines. But his focus is now fundamentally different: the environment. "A combustion engine is not dirty per se, only the fuel is," emphasizes the ex-professional and continues: "That's why we want to show with our Project Tech Open that there is another alternative alongside electromobility and hydrogen propulsion with synthetic fuels." At Engadin Airport, Prince Leopold starts in a historic BMW 3.0 CSL.
The approximately 350 hp high-performance engine runs on Super ECO fuel, which produces around 22 percent less CO2 and over 50 percent less particulate matter. The team around initiator Axel Watter and his Royal Bobsleigh Automobile Club have already impressively demonstrated at the Hockenheimring that the six-cylinder engine can cope well with this promising fuel.
More information about the event can be found on the "Kilomètre Lancé" website. All five events of the International St. Moritz Automobile Week are summarized on a joint website.
