58 cars, 330 kilometers, 36 special stages, 4 of them on closed, wintry mountain roads, 3 of them on golf courses. Plus an extended age range: cars built up to 1976 are now allowed to take part in the PLANAI-CLASSIC. The classic start to the year 2025 will be a celebration!
Hot drifts in the cold snow, fine classic cars covered in a layer of ice, special stages in the freezing cold, wonderful sunshine on the snow-covered Planai - that's the Planai Classic, which will take place from January 9 to 11, 2024. Brief characteristics: 58 cars, 330 kilometers, 36 special stages, 4 of them on closed, wintry mountain roads, 3 of them on golf courses.
Postponed year of construction limit
The 28th edition of one of the "last true winter adventures" offers a number of new features. One of them: the year of construction limit has been moved to 1976! Far too many great cars, which have long enjoyed cult status among car enthusiasts and are perfect for spectacular snow drifts, have so far been excluded from the best winter event for fans of classic cars. This should no longer be the case.
10 hours of driving time, big crowds
Depending on the weather, the race will last ten hours through the most beautiful winter landscapes. 36 special stages, four of them on closed winter tracks over Dachstein and Planai, three of them on the honorable golf courses Schladming-Dachstein, Radstadt and Schloss Pichlarn, have to be mastered.
The crowds were huge! 58 participating teams are on the start list. Taking part for the first time in winter: The juvenile Ennstal-Classic winning team Margarita and Magdalena Voglar (Alfa Romeo Giulia TI), also at the start are the Planai-Classic title defenders Hansi Mlcoch and Martin Laaha.
The oldest cars in the field are traditionally brought to Gröbming by Jonas and Gunter Lach (Austin Seven Ulster Special from 1932) and Johann and Gabi Kofler (Healey Silverstone, 1950), but there will also be a Datsun 240Z, several Lancia Fulvia and of course a horde of Porsche 911s at the start.
And because the Enns Valley always shows its best side in winter, you can expect at least as great an atmosphere as in recent years in Schladming (start on Thursday), on the Planai (Saturday, as always) or at the Gröbming harness racing track, where there will once again be a great show program with hot drifts and horse races (Friday evening).
