Founded in 2016, "The Market" soon became the largest and internationally recognized online auctioneer. Low fees, high photo quality/quantity and extensive descriptions even paved the way for expansion into mainland Europe.
In 2021, "The Market" was then acquired and integrated by Bonhams.
Now, five years later, the old company "The Market" has been created a second time as part of a "management buyout", so to speak.
The focus is (once again) on the British market and the aim is to ensure the quality of the offer as well as its description and illustration with a central concierge service.
The buyer of a car pays no fees, while these amount to seven percent of the selling price for the seller (plus VAT), but are never higher than £ 7000 ("capped"). There is also a fixed £695 (+ VAT) for the concierge service.
Example:
An Aston Martin DB6 is offered for sale. The seller pays £ 695 plus tax for the presentation. The car is sold for £135,000. Seven percent sales commission would be £ 9450, but the seller only has to pay £ 7000 plus tax. The buyer pays exactly the hammer price of £135,000.

Bonhams comments
Terms have been agreed with the management of Patina Classics Ltd (currently trading as Bonhams|Cars Online) to allow the business to return to the original management and to start trading as "The Market" again.
The business will remain at its premises in South Oxfordshire having agreed a new 10-year lease. The new owner and Chief Executive Officer will be Mark Livesey, who has been managing the business since June 2020.
