Today, cars are often seen as a symbol of pollution, noise and exhaust fumes. It is easy to forget this: Motorized mobility was once the solution to a massive urban crisis. Around 1900, cities like London and New York were on the verge of collapse - not because of cars, but because of horse-drawn carriages. Tons of manure on the streets, unsanitary conditions, urban planning at its limit. The invention of the automobile was a liberation - and a step forward.
Free for visitors
Today, over 100 years later, the O-iO - Oldtimer in Obwalden event invites visitors to take a contemporary look at the history of individual mobility - without any pretentious finger-wagging. The event not only showcases over 500 vehicles from various eras, but also demonstrates how technology, design and lifestyle have changed. An open-air museum on four wheels, open to all - with free admission.
Family-friendly
O-iO is deliberately positioned as a family-friendly Whitsun event, especially for children. The highlight is the free passenger rides, where children (accompanied) and adults can ride in a vintage car. Being so actively involved in the action, this immersion in another time, makes O-iO an intense experience that appeals to all the senses.
