The Essen Motor Show 2020 cannot take place due to the current dynamic coronavirus infection situation. The motor show was actually supposed to start this year as a "limited edition" with fewer visitors and a reduced range of products. The city of Essen has now officially decided that the Essen Motor Show cannot take place. Like a number of other major German cities, the city in the Ruhr region has an increased incidence of new infections.
No alternative to cancellation
"We regret that the Essen Motor Show cannot take place this year. This is a disappointment for our exhibitors in particular, as they put a lot of heart and soul and passion into the fair. At the same time, we understand the decision of the city of Essen. The infection situation in Essen and beyond is very dynamic at the moment and has worsened significantly compared to last month. Even though there has been no demonstrable risk of infection from trade fairs in the past, we understand that in the current situation, safety and caution determine the actions of politicians," says Oliver P. Kuhrt, Managing Director of Messe Essen. Visitors will not be left sitting on their money: anyone who has bought a ticket will be refunded the ticket price.
Hoping for next year
The next Essen Motor Show is therefore scheduled to take place from November 27 to December 5, 2021. The organizers are optimistic: "We firmly assume that our business will return to normal in the course of next year and that the Essen Motor Show 2021 can take place under the usual conditions. We are already starting preparations for this," Oliver P. Kuhrt continues.
