After the "Betty Richmond Trophy" was announced as a new feature of the 77th Members Meeting, the organizers were inundated with race registrations for the mini-races. For this reason, they decided to change the format.
In 2019, Mini celebrates its 60th birthday, one of the reasons why Goodwood is now welcoming 60 Minis to the Members Meeting this year. These will start in two qualifying sessions of 30 cars each on Saturday morning (6.4.2019). Two races will take place on the same evening, with the best 15 cars going through to the final on Sunday afternoon.
The Betty Richmond Trophy was announced last November as a new race exclusively for pre-66 Mini Saloons and variants. The Trophy was named after the grandmother of the current Duke, Elizabeth "Betty" Richmond. Her husband Frederick Gordon-Lennox, also Duke of Richmond, opened the Goodwood Motor Circuit in September 1948. A friend of Mini designer Alex Issigonis and an admirer of small, cleverly designed cars, he ordered one of the first Minis around 1959, but it was his wife who fell completely in love with the Mini.
Co-organizer Matt Hearn said about the Trophy that the interest was incredibly high. Over 100 people wanted to take part. Unfortunately, they had to turn down many beautiful cars due to the space available. Fortunately, however, the two separate qualifying sessions with the corresponding races have now been held. The interest in the British icon remains unbroken.
Tickets for the event are selling extremely quickly, but at the moment there are still some available for members of the Road Racing Club and community members. Click here for more information on membership.
