The Mercedes-Benz Museum's new special exhibition "G-Stories" celebrates 40 years of the G-Class and tells the biography of the G with eleven vehicles and other exhibits from October 18, 2019 to April 19, 2020. For the opening weekend on October 19 and 20, further special G-Class vehicles will be on display on the museum hill, including one from the Porsche Museum collection. There will be an art activity for children with a real G-Class.
Vehicles built from 1979 onwards are the stars of the exhibition
"G-Stories" is the name of the new special exhibition at the Mercedes-Benz Museum. It tells the varied history of this model series using the example of very different vehicles.
The exhibition in Collections Room 5 will be open from October 18, 2019 until April 19, 2020. The stars of the exhibition are vehicles built since 1979, including the "Papamobil" from 1980, the winning car from the 1983 Paris-Dakar Rally as a faithful replica and the last G-Class Cabriolet from 2013.
Program on the opening weekend
See and be seen: In addition to the G-Classes in the special exhibition, five special vehicles are already waiting on the museum hill. Three Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMGs from the "Crazy Color" special edition will set strong color accents. A G 63 AMG 6x6 shows how the capabilities of the G-Class can be further enhanced with three axles instead of two. And the Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet combines the off-road capability of the G with luxury at the highest level. Further converted G-Classes can be seen in the Great Hall. They will be presented by the company LeTech from Welzheim, which specializes in off-road vehicles, and numerous other variants of the off-road vehicle are also expected on the museum hill. Visitors arriving in their G-Class can park in front of the museum and experience the exhibition free of charge.
Literally creative program for children
Get creative: As part of an activity organized by the Unteres Remstal art school, children use colourful foils to cover a real G-Class. The young artists design the motifs themselves using the stencil technique. Painting templates and craft sheets for paper models of the off-road vehicle are also available. The Porsche Museum is sending a very special guest to the weekend: a G-Class that was used as a service car in the 1986 Paris-Dakar Rally. It is powered by a 4.7-liter V8 engine from a Porsche 928.
