The "Lugano Classic" is an event that, since 2012, has combined a passion for classic cars with the beauty of a region rich in assets that are still far too little known.
The event lasts two days and takes place in the center of Lugano. For this purpose, the Ticino city is transformed into an open-air museum with moving works of art.
On Sunday morning, there are rides along picturesque Ticino routes.
The level reached by the Lugano Classic 2023, both in terms of the number of vehicles taking part and the number of collectors and enthusiasts, has raised the bar even higher for an event.
Showing off on Saturday
Classic cars, as well as special, rare and competition vehicles, will be on display on the first day of the event in Lugano. This also offers visitors the opportunity to talk to collectors and brand clubs. Anyone arriving with a classic vehicle can park free of charge in Piazza Rezzonico.
Photographer Pietro Rocchi will be offering a free short course on photographing cars. This will be followed by a photo competition in which anyone can take part and which will be awarded prizes by a special jury.
The public and participants can vote for their favorite car, and the prize is a plaque donated by Massimo Basile, the publisher of Celebre magazines. This will be followed by guided tours of the city's secrets and a race with professional simulators in the courtyard of the town hall.
The main event will take place in the town hall in the early afternoon: A conference on the history of the Swiss car brand Monteverdi with an exhibition of various vehicles and a lecture on the founder Peter Monteverdi and the brand, presented together with the main sponsor Julius Baer.
At 18:00, the award ceremonies will take place in the inner courtyard of the town hall, followed by an aperitif for the participants. This will be followed by a special dinner for the participants, who can park their cars on the square.
Driving on Sunday
Sunday is dedicated to a round trip along picturesque routes to the beauties of the canton of Ticino. Participants will drive through typical Ticino villages and follow an atmospheric and technical route where they can get their engines singing.
After breakfast in Piazza Riforma and the "Drivers Briefing", the crews set off on a scenic tour full of surprises, starting on the lake shore and this year, after some skill and precision tests and a delicious aperitif, returning to the center of Lugano, where lunch and the award ceremony will take place: The first place winner of the morning tests will receive an attractive watch donated by Marco Longhi of Cuervo y Sobrinos.
