There are countless tips and tricks for optimum winter storage. Here are the most important points to increase the functionality, value retention and service life of your classic car. In addition to thorough cleaning of the vehicle, various points must be checked, lubricated and preserved. A covered, well-ventilated and temperature-stable (frost-proof) storage location is essential. A power connection also enables the use of a dehumidifier and a float charger for the battery.
Thorough cleaning
No classic should go into hibernation without a thorough exterior and interior cleaning. During operation, heaps of dirt accumulate in all corners of the vehicle. A hand wash with the biodegradable Wash & Pearl results in a lasting shine and beading effect. Not to forget: Wheel arches, wheel arches, corners, joints, door edges and water drains. In case of heavy soiling, it is advisable to have the underbody cleaned in a workshop. Dirt on steel and alloy rims is usually stubborn. The biodegradable and acid-free wheel cleaner Wheel Cleaner makes cleaning gentle and easy. It is also ideal for spoke wheels. An absorbent leather or microfiber cloth is suitable for drying the vehicle completely. This prevents moisture from spreading under the tarpaulin in winter. Now we move on to the interior of the classic car. Clean with a vacuum cleaner and a damp sponge/cloth. The leather seats are then treated with a suitable leather care product to keep the leather supple. A large brush helps to easily remove dust and dirt from edges and ventilation grilles. The next step is to ensure perfect visibility. A glass cleaner with active foam is recommended to prevent the liquid from dripping onto sensitive surfaces on vertical surfaces. Professionals use the biodegradable Glass Cleaner Foam and then enjoy a pleasant citrus scent.
Lubrication and care
An oil change should always be carried out before winterizing. This protects sensitive components such as single-layer non-ferrous metal bearings in the engine from corrosion. In a specialist workshop, the mechanic can apply grease to all lubrication points on the lifting platform at the same time. This prevents moisture from penetrating during the service life. Oil Spray Bio is ideal for lubricating all moving parts such as hinges, latches and locks. As you might have guessed, this product is also biodegradable. It lubricates, protects against corrosion and leaves behind a colorless, thin and caring film. The spray can also be applied upside down without any problems.
Now we turn our attention to the rubber seals on the doors and trunk. Silicone spray will keep the seals supple for years if they are kept clean and dry. Silicone must never get onto painted parts.
Cleaned battery terminals and clamps can be protected against oxidation in just a few seconds with Accu Protect Spray. The on-board electrical system will then function perfectly.
Preservation pays off
Conservation measures are particularly worthwhile, as many parts on classic cars are in short supply. If you are lucky enough to own a convertible, you will appreciate a dirt and water-repellent soft top. After washing the vehicle at the end of the season is the perfect time to impregnate the clean and dry soft top. Protex is a highly effective invisible textile and leather impregnation in spray form. It not only protects against moisture and oil, but also prevents dirt from adhering. The fabric remains breathable. Protex can simply be sprayed onto the closed soft top. Convertibles should always be parked with the top down for longer periods of time.
Moto Protect makes it possible to properly care for and preserve chrome and elegant surfaces. For protection during long downtimes, leave the spray to work briefly and then wipe it off with a soft microfiber cloth. The moisture-displacing and biodegradable protective spray forms a thin oil film. Faded paints and plastics, such as those in the engine compartment, regain their color depth and shine. Moto Protect is a real all-rounder and should not be missing in any classic car garage.
The last trip is to the filling station. The vehicle must be warmed up properly in dry weather (high temperature). Before refuelling, add the fuel additive Fuel Stabilizer (for petrol and diesel engines). It prevents fuel oxidation, binds water and protects the entire system against corrosion - success guaranteed.
