Autobau and Goodtimer held a joint public auction (without internet and telephone bidding) for the first time on the afternoon of Saturday, July 1, 2023. Despite the short preparation time of just under three months, a selection of 37 high-quality classics and sports cars worth almost CHF 4.8 million came together, including six BMWs, four Jaguars, three each from Fiat, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, and two each from Alfa Romeo and Ferrari.
Curiosity rather than buying intentions in the audience
There were 80 visitors in the audience, most of whom came with no intention of buying.
For around three hours, the auctioneers entertained the guests with a great deal of knowledge about the vehicles and a pinch of humor and were ultimately able to sell the majority of the automobilia and some of the valuable classic cars. The newer sports cars, however, all remained unsold.
Particular interest in classic cars
Among others, the following vehicles were knocked down (prices include hammer price):
- Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300 GT from 1967 in condition 2 (CHF 39,500)
- Maserati Mistral from 1966/67 in condition 1 (CHF 197,500)
- Mercedes Benz 190 SL from 1958 in condition 1- (CHF 175'000)
- Mercedes Benz 190 SL from 1955 in condition 2-3 (CHF 96'000)
The bargain of the day was a beautifully restored Fiat Topolino from 1951, sold for CHF 17,500.
Unfortunately, the Mercedes Benz 300 SEL 6.3, once Clay Regazzoni's private vehicle, could not be sold.
The CHF 25,000 offered was not enough to reach the target amount for the donation to the Paraplegic Foundation.
Follow-up business still possible
For several vehicles, it was only possible to achieve a conditional acceptance, and renegotiations are currently underway, which could well lead to sales in one or two cases.
Other vehicles are still for sale, inquiries can be made to Goodtimer.
Next auction already planned
The next auction on Lake Constance is scheduled to take place in the coming winter months at the "autobau erlebniswelt" in Romanshorn, and this time with competition from outside, as the new Goodtimerauktion.ch online platform will be ready in the fall. Online bidding will then also be possible, and the telephone channel will also be made possible.
Further information (including access to the auction catalog) can be found on the Goodtimer website.
