The 28th edition of InterClassics Maastricht, which was scheduled to take place from January 14 to 17, 2021 at MECC Maastricht, has been postponed to June 24 to 27, 2021. The ongoing uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 virus are too great to guarantee the quality of the trade fair.
The health and well-being of participants and visitors have priority. In consultation with sponsors and shareholders, the organization has therefore decided to postpone the fair to June 2021 for these reasons. The main theme of the summer edition of InterClassics Maastricht at MECC Maastricht is the history of the Dutch Grand Prix.
Special theme: Dutch Grand Prix
The theme of InterClassics Maastricht in June 2021 is 'Dutch Grand Prix Classics'. The last official Formula 1 race on the Zandvoort circuit was held on August 25, 1985. 2020 was to be the year of the Dutch Grand Prix, which the entire Formula 1 world was eagerly awaiting.
The COVID-19 pandemic meant that the Formula 1 race on Dutch soil was not possible this year. Now everyone is hoping for 2021. During the trade fair in June, the 'Dutch Grand Prix Classics, the cars and the legends will be looked back on and a unique collection of Formula 1 cars from the history of Circuit Zandvoort will be presented in collaboration with various museums and private collectors.
Improved starting position thanks to postponement
"Despite the disappointment of having to postpone the trade fair by a few months, we also see the opportunities in it. In June, we will be able to make optimal use of the new MECC Maastricht congress center, which will be completed at the beginning of March 2021. This will give us more space and allow us to hold the trade fair in a coronavirus-safe environment. In addition, higher temperatures and more sunshine are expected in June, which will allow us to organize various activities on the outdoor area of the MECC Maastricht, such as a 'Youngtimer & Oldtimer Market'. Like our participants, sponsors and shareholders, we are convinced that this is the best solution and are confident that we will once again deliver a successful edition of InterClassics Maastricht in June," says Erik Panis, Exhibition Manager of InterClassics.
The 28th edition of InterClassics Maastricht will take place from Thursday, June 24, 2021, up to and including Sunday, June 27, 2021, at MECC Maastricht. The classic car fair traditionally attracts many buyers and fans. With a total area of 35,000 square meters, more than 800 classic cars and 300 exhibitors, InterClassics Maastricht is one of the largest classic car events in Europe. All registrations for the 'January 2021 edition' remain valid for the 'June 2021 edition'.
