In the United States there is a very successful historic vehicle register of the HVA, now the FIVA has started to create a similar register for European cars, trucks, military vehicles and motorcycles.
European database
Like the HVA, which has been very successful in documenting vehicles with a special heritage in order to store this data in a digital database, the FIVA is now considering a similar project.
As there is no suitable digital database in Brussels, an alternative was sought and the closest suitable alternative is European.eu, a European digital platform for museums and other art collections. Preliminary discussions on whether FIVA is able to add to the collection on a regular basis are already underway and European.eu is willing to work with FIVA to take this initiative forward within its own organization and in Brussels.
Vehicles with historical significance
FIVA, which protects historic vehicles aged 25 years or older, is now looking for individual vehicles that have had and continue to have an impact on the industry or society. It is therefore not trying to find a specific type of vehicle, but a specific vehicle that has, for example, reached a particular destination, made a remarkable journey or has some other historical significance.
FIVA members will be able to suggest vehicles that could be part of this selection of vehicles that will be fully documented and digitally immortalized to be displayed on the European digital library platform European.eu.
