Zwischengas and Emil Frey Classics hosted the traditional spring brunch in Safenwil on the last Sunday in April, just in time for the opening of the season and the second beginning of spring, so to speak. Gaps in the sun invited visitors to enjoy the numerous vintage cars on display.
A proud 120 classic car enthusiasts, including numerous members of the Citroën-SM-Club of Switzerland, gathered for an extensive feast, accompanied by a jazz band and rounded off with a lecture by "paint legend" Jürgen Book, FIVA paint expert and guest here on behalf of the manufacturer Glasurit, who spoke about the correct color tones for historic vehicles.
Starting with the origins of automotive colors, the lecture covered a wide range of topics, from numbers and data to the infinite variety of colors and the right choice of color for restoration to a very important lesson that sounds trivial but is often ignored: Especially with classic cars, it is enormously important for an invisible repair to match the new color tone in the area of the damaged area to the old, inevitably always slightly weathered paint and to preserve historical paint substance around the damaged area as far as possible. Last but not least, the choice of the original color increases the value of the vehicle; at best, a refinish should not even be recognizable.
However, the still valid law was also confirmed: very good painters are artists and their specialist knowledge and talent are at least as important as the right choice of material and technique.
