Just in time for the official presentation of the two latest BMW Art Cars in Munich and a good 40 years after the start of the BMW Art Car series, the Automuseum Prototyp is presenting a retrospective of some of the most interesting vehicles in this extraordinary art series. The BMW Art Cars on display are extremely impressive both as individual solitaires and as a whole.

A look at the artists
In addition to the exciting staging of the vehicles, particular emphasis is placed on conveying the human dimension. While the focus is usually on the designers and racing drivers, this special exhibition is dedicated to the artists involved. Visitors can find out about the artists' vita, concept and work history via touchscreen. In their statements, some of the creative artists explicitly refer to the power of the BMWs they have designed, such as Andy Warhol: "I tried to depict speed visually. When a car drives really fast, all the lines and colors blur." Frank Stella, on the other hand, primarily describes the individual effect this project had on him in his statements: "This car opened me up a bit to the real world!" and A.R. Penck remains as emblematic in his speech as in his work: "Art on art, art on technology - that's what interested me".
