Situationally elastic, flexible reactions - this was one of the word creations, the formulation that probably best describes the complexity of the tasks in recent weeks and months for everyone involved. To be able to hold the well-known series at short notice in the face of constantly changing deadlines, regulations and other uncertainty factors resulting from local restrictions and to be able to crown the champions in the advertised classes required the offensive commitment of the entire Touring Car Classics family.
Typical touring car
Starting with the test day at the end of May at the Nürburgring, which was the only opportunity to put the racing cars through their paces on the race track before the season opener at the Salzburgring. On the circuit near the city of Mozart in mid-July and at the subsequent races at the Oldtimer Grand Prix (OGP) and at the Lausitzring in August, as well as subsequently in Assen and on the short circuit of the Nürburgring, all had one thing in common: exciting races, full starting fields with mostly 30 cars that could be distinguished from afar by their silhouettes and individual looks.
But not only that. The classic cars can also be identified by the typical sound of their engines, and not just for the real fans. The sounds of the BMWs, Mercedes, Audi, Opel, Ford etc. from the golden era of racing cars at the end of the 80s and beginning of the 90s were so clear that you could explicitly hear them after a few laps in the grandstand.
Accordingly, it was clear to the spectators at the OGP as soon as they turned onto the long start-finish straight that Gerhard Füller would win in the Opel in races of the Golden Era. This was also the case in Assen, where the spectators in the open grandstands could already hear that he would be the first to see the black and white checkered flag before the last combination of corners. As a result, he also won the "Golden Era" classification.
Nissen champion among the ex-professionals
Among the ex-professionals - 13 were at the start despite corona - Kris Nissen was ahead in the final standings with his original BMW prepared by Feierabend Classic. The team classification went confidently to the well-positioned team from 2.0 Automotive in Düsseldorf.
Seven races are expected to be on the program for 2021, where everyone - winners & runners-up - will once again use all their power to successfully defend their positions.
