10 years of Paris Photo and BMW
BMW and "Paris Photo" are celebrating their 10-year partnership by exhibiting something very special from BMW's racing history: the Art Car by Andy Warhol, a specially painted BMW M1 Group4.
Warhol on the brightly colored Art Car BMW M1: "I was trying," he explained his sweeping brush and finger strokes, "to depict speed. When a car is going really fast, all the lines and colors blur."
2nd place at Le Mans 1979
The 470 hp six-cylinder was also fast at the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans: the BMW took second place in its class. At the wheel were the German Manfred Winkelhock and the two Frenchmen Marcel Mignot and Hervé Poulain. They were nine laps behind the class winner, the Porsche 935/77A from Kremer Racing.
A nicely designed BMW website shows all the Art Cars in chronological order: Number #4 was Andy Warhol's BMW M1.
So if you happen to be in L.A., don't miss this annual photography exhibition!
About Paris Photo
Paris Photo was founded in 1996 and is one of the most prestigious photography exhibitions in the world. The exhibition takes place annually in Paris at the Grand Palais in mid-November and at the end of April at the Paramount Studios in Los Angeles.
Over the past 16 years, the organizers have repeatedly surprised visitors with special exhibits, making the exhibition a fixed date in the calendar for many photographers, artists and art lovers.
The focus of every exhibition remains photography, of course, but more and more sculptures and other art objects (such as Andy Warhol's BMW M1) are also exhibited.
