On the evening of March 31, 2023, a very special Porsche 356 SC was unveiled at the Porsche Classic Center in Zurich-Schlieren. In collaboration with Alfredo Häberli, an "Art Car" was created that deliberately represents a counterpoint to other projects of this kind.
Alfredo Häberli, born in 1964, is an internationally established designer who designs for a wide variety of companies in his studio in Zurich's Seefeld district, working on watches, furniture and other items.
The qualified industrial designer drives a classic Porsche 911 in his private life and did not take the task of designing a Porsche 356 lightly, as his reverence for the work of the Porsche engineers was too great. What's more, the 1964 356 SC used is a very special specimen which, delivered in Rome, had been cared for and pampered throughout its life.
Häberli did not want to meet the original expectations of creating something colorful in the style of the Janis Joplin 356. He was aiming for something much more reduced, a color scheme that would represent "the weight of lightness". It was important to him that the paint was applied with a paintbrush so that the strokes left behind were still visible in the finished product. Anecdote in passing: there were no paintbrushes in the paint shop at the Porsche Classic Center Zurich-Schlieren; they had to be obtained from a nearby construction site.
Alfredo Häberli personally presented the painted Porsche, which will now be on display at various exhibitions and meetings until the end of the year and will then ultimately be auctioned off for a good cause, to a small audience at the newly renovated Porsche Classic Center in Zurich-Schlieren. On April 1, 2023, the car will then also be shown to all visitors on site as part of the Porsche Passion Day. No joke!
