After almost 40 years, a 1000-kilometer race will once again take place on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife on September 18, 2021. A sprint race for open-wheel vehicles (which are no longer permitted on the Nordschleife) is planned for Friday, September 17.
In contrast to the original race, which was held from 1953 to 1983, the new edition of the 1000 km race will not feature current racing cars but historic cars built between 1947 and 1994, thus compensating for the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix, which was canceled this year.
Maximum of 210 vehicles in the 1000 km race
A maximum of 210 vehicles can take part. Those who still want to register have until August 30 at 23:59.
The entry fee for the 1000-kilometer race is 3250 euros, the entry fee for the sprint race is 1350 euros.
Spectators welcome
Spectators get away a little cheaper. A day ticket for the qualifying heats and the 45-minute sprint on Friday costs 15 euros, a Saturday ticket for the main race, which lasts a maximum of 6.5 hours, costs 28 euros. A weekend ticket for both days costs 38 euros, plus a parking fee of 10 euros (or 8 euros for a single-day ticket).
An additional treat for nostalgia lovers: track announcer legend Rainer Braun will be commentating the race and interviewing the drivers. What a number!
