The DKW F8 spent many years in the Museum for Saxon Vehicles in Chemnitz and represented the "barn find" that every collector longed for. In other words, the untouched classic car that was hidden away for a long time and was rediscovered by chance.
With the redesign of the permanent exhibition in the museum, the area in which the DKW F8 from 1940 previously stood will also be updated. "The remains of the DKW, which had been converted into a flatbed truck, came to the museum in 1995 as a gift from a car dealer. Nothing was known about its history at the time," explains Ludwig Karsch, Chairman of the Museum für sächsische Fahrzeuge Chemnitz e.V. association.
"It wasn't until 2013 that a visitor recognized the company car from his father's car upholstery business in Chemnitz in our 'wreck'. He had noticed the blue paint residue, as he had personally received the order over forty years ago to pour all the paint residue in the company together and paint the car with a brush using the resulting blue. He was even able to provide photos of the original condition and he knew that the DKW finally earned its bread of mercy by bringing lunch to the field workers of an LPG in Markersdorf."
Staged as a barn find with chickens, the F8 was already a main attraction of the vehicle museum in Klaffenbach. Now it is to find a new home, as the exhibition area is to be designed with a GDR camping scene.
