Many fans of the classic Super Seven have been waiting for this. Caterham is launching a new Seven that almost looks like the cars that were built in the 1980s.
The 540 kg minimal roadster is powered by a 1.6-liter Ford four-cylinder engine that delivers 135 hp at 6800 rpm.
Just like back then
Inside, the driver is greeted by an interior which, although more upmarket than back then, is reminiscent of the good old days with its classic Smiths instruments and toggle switches.
The buyer can choose from many colors and a rather impressive list of options, the most important, at least for the tall ones, is probably the "Large Chassis size (SV)", which allows significantly more freedom of movement than the historical predecessors.
Caterham was inspired by the first self-built Sevens, which were created after taking over the license from Lotus.
And, yes, at least in the UK you can also buy the Super Seven 1600 as a kit. There's plenty of time now to assemble this fun roadster. The car costs £33,495 in the UK, currently that would be EUR 38,529 in Germany and CHF 40,508 in Switzerland. It is not yet entirely clear whether the model will be exported, in what form and above all at what price.
