Bonhams has been a loyal partner of the Goodwood Revival for many years and organizes an auction on the Saturday of the international race meeting. On September 9, 2023, the time has come again and, in addition to many automobilia, 97 cars, four tractors, two airplanes and a London bus will go under the hammer. The total value of the vehicles is £23.7 million. Each vehicle is expected to fetch around £ 192,275. 10 percent of the vehicles will be offered without a reserve price.
British brands in the lead
Around two thirds of the vehicles come from British manufacturers. The Aston Martin brand is most strongly represented with 17 cars, which are 51 years old on average.
Porsche brings ten years to Goodwood, Jaguar nine. Land Rover and Bentley are represented with eight and seven vehicles respectively, MG with four. All other brands are represented with fewer cars, some such as Packard, Riley and Tatra with just one vehicle.
The Le Mans RSR
Herbert Müller and Gijs van Lennep drove the Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3-Liter 1973 to fourth place overall at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
However, this was not the end of the racing career, as Helmut Koinigg/Manfred Schurti also drove it on the Österreichring, while Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood raced it in the USA. "R7", as the car with chassis 9113 600686 is known, was eventually rebuilt to Le Mans specification and is one of the best-preserved RSRs today.
£ 3.75 to 5.75 million is what this special racing car should be worth to prospective buyers on September 9, 2023.
Race-proven Riley 9 HP
The Riley 9 HP Brooklands Sports from 1928, a car with a racing history, is available at a much lower price. Chassis 8025 was once driven by Reginald Tongue in many races, including the London-to-Land's End Trail in 1932, the mYorkshire Trial in 1931 and other races.
The four-cylinder sports car was restored from the ground up in the new millennium and is now expected to change hands for between £ 90,000 and £ 110,000.
An eight-cylinder Tatra
The Tatra 87 was a more compact and lighter version of the T77. With its three-liter V8, the car could reach 160 km/h and was built from 1936 to 1950.
Chassis 69216 dates from 1946 and is now expected to cost £65,000 to £85,000 with some improvements on board (but the original parts with the vendor).
Elegant Lancia Aurelia B53 Pinin Farina Cabriolet
Chassis B53 1083 from 1952 with Pinin Farina Cabriolet bodywork is probably a one-off. In any case, the car looks very elegant and was professionally restored between 2006 and 2008.
The estimate of £ 90,000 to £ 110,000 does not sound exaggerated in view of the restoration costs.
Many super classics
Around two thirds of the Bonhams offerings at the Revival are so-called super classics.
These include several Aston Martin DB2/4s, a DB4 and three DB6s, as well as a handful of V8 models from Aston.
Several Bentleys from the 1950s and a Ferrari 250 GT from 1958 also belong in this category.
A Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 from 1973 is also looking for a new owner, but £650,000 to £750,000 is a high barrier to entry.
Four Jaguar E-Types and four XK models from the same manufacturer can also be found on the lot list.
From Maserati, a 3500 GT from 1960 and a Khamsin from 1976 are tempting, while Mercedes-Benz is represented in this segment with a 190 SL, a 230 SL and a 600 saloon.
A whole horde of MG and Austin-Healey were also part of the typical Bonhams lineup.
Don't forget one of the few Toyota 2000 GTs built in 1967, which is looking for a new owner for £700,000 to £900,000.
Further information and many pictures can be found on the Bonhams website.
