After 49 years in the ownership of the same family, a Ferrari 250 GTO from 1962 with chassis number 3851 GT will be offered by Bonhams at the Quail Lodge auction in Monterey on August 14/15, 2014.
The GTO is part of the "Maranello Rosso Collection", which Bonhams is bringing under the hammer in Monterey. Fabrizio Violati bought the car in 1965 and saved it from the scrapyard. However, he had to hide it from his parents and only drove it at night. It remained in his possession for many decades and he often took part in classic car races with it.
The car is offered without a reserve price. However, you can't hope for a bargain, as it is rumored that the last GTO that changed hands privately exceeded the 50 million mark.
In addition to the Ferrari 250 GTO, a Porsche 908/03 from 1970, a Porsche 911 RSR 3.0 from 1974, a very early Maserati A6 1500/3C from 1949 and many other collector's items will also go under the hammer.
Further information on the auction in Monterey can be found on the Bonhams website.
