The Zoute auction has been part of Bonhams' annual auction program for many years. On October 6, 2024, 69 cars (and one motorcycle) as well as various automobilia and children's cars will go under the hammer at the Zoute Grand Prix. The 69 cars have been estimated in advance at around EUR 25.5 million, meaning that each car is expected to fetch around EUR 370,000. However, 43 of them (62%) will be sold without a reserve price.
Young offer
With an average age of less than 38 years, the vehicles are comparatively young.
In fact, there are only two pre-war cars on offer, while 28 cars are from the new millennium.
Porsche, Aston, Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz
The four brands Porsche (12 cars), Aston Martin (10), Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz (9 each) together account for three-fifths of the entire vehicle selection.
Really exotic brands are missing, apart from Spyker.
Stuck's BMW 3.0 CSL
Hans-Joachim Stuck once drove the "Batmobile" with chassis 4355031, which had been taken over by BMW Motorsport as a test car.
He eventually sold the car to the well-known ski racer Christian Neureuther, who drove it until 1978. The CSL then became the property of a collector and has already been restored twice. In 2006, it competed at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este and has also been shown several times at Goodwood.
Now EUR 300,000 to 400,000 is to change hands in exchange for the white coupé.
Porsche 550 Spyder with Le Mans history
Only 90 examples of the Porsche 550 RS Spyder were built, and the chassis on offer with the number 550-0082 is one of the ten cars that competed in Le Mans in 1957. But the other race participations are also steeped in history.
Completely restored and, as at the beginning, in yellow paintwork, the Spyder is now looking for a new owner willing to pay EUR 3.4 to 3.9 million.
One of two Ferrari 340 America with touring coupé body built
chassis 0122A was on display at the 1952 Brussels Motor Show and has both a contemporary racing history and a concours track record.
An enthusiastic driver is now expected to pay EUR 3 to 4 million for the beautiful coupé.
The Bugatti 35 without a change of ownership for 60 years
The Bugatti 35A from 1926 with chassis 4755 is one of only 140 examples built and has remained largely in its original condition to this day, which is also due to the fact that it has never changed hands ("single family ownership") over the last 60 years.
An estimate of EUR 1.2 to 1.4 million was made for the well-documented car.
SLR quartet
The strong presence of the Mercedes-Benz SLR in Zoute, with four cars, is certainly unusual.
On offer are a roadster as well as two coupés and a "Stirling Moss" version of the front-engined sports car. Estimates range from EUR 200,000 to 2.5 million.
Many super classics
There is a wide range of super classics on offer in Zoute.
Examples include two Aston Martin DB4s, an Austin-Healey 100/4 BN1, a De Tomaso Mangusta, a Ferrari 512 BBi, two Lamborgini 400 GTs, a Maserati Ghibli, a Maserati Mistral Spyder, a Porsche 911 SWB and a Shelby Mustang GT350.
Less common and frequently offered cars are also available for auction at Bonhams, most of them without a minimum bid. For example, an Austin Mini Moke from 1965 was estimated at EUR 20,000 to 30,000, a Mercedes-Benz 190 D station wagon from 1961 can be bought for EUR 40,000 to 60,000 and a Lotus Elite from 1960 for EUR 70,000 to 100,000.
The rare MGB Berlinetta by Belgian coachbuilder Coune will go under the hammer for EUR 90,000 to 130,000.
Further information and many pictures can be found on the Bonhams website.
