The O iO(Oldtimer in Obwalden) event is almost like a giant time machine.
545 vintage cars - from 1884 to the early 1980s - will transform the participating towns in the canton of Obwalden in central Switzerland into a fairytale nostalgia open-air museum on May 18/19, 2013.
Among the registered vehicles, there will be some rarities to marvel at that you normally never encounter on public roads and that you may never have seen before. Steam mobiles, cabin scooters, flatbed trucks, tractors, limousines, luxury vehicles and sports cars will gather in the cantonal capital of Sarnen on Whit Saturday and present themselves as a large open-air museum. Over a dozen Austin cars alone have been registered, but there will also be fine classics from Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Ferrari. From Sarnen, the event will continue on various routes to Giswil.
On Whitsunday, the participating classic cars will make a pilgrimage from Sarnen to Engelberg, with the special route just before the finish being a particular treat.
The O iO is an informal classic car meeting aimed at the whole family, including grandparents. There is plenty to see, and even carpooling opportunities are offered. And for the first time in 2013, it will even be possible to buy a classic car on site.
