Aston Martin is celebrating its 110th anniversary for a whole year, honoring its past, present and future.
This Sunday, January 15, marks exactly 110 years since founders Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford officially entered into a partnership that would later produce Aston Martin's first car. This marked the beginning of over a century of exciting automotive history, technical innovation and impressive success in top-level motor racing.
From the very beginning, Aston Martin was closely associated with motor racing, and its founders were enthusiastic racing drivers. Over time, the company evolved from humble beginnings in a small workshop on Henniker Mews in Chelsea, London, to become one of the world's most respected car brands, synonymous with innovative design, supreme craftsmanship, breathtaking performance and rare exclusivity.
To mark the anniversary, Aston Martin is now publishing photographs of two of the most legendary and ground-breaking models in its 110-year history. They impressively show how Aston Martin has always pushed the boundaries of what is technically possible and brought Grand Prix performance to the road.
On display is one of the brand's oldest racing cars still in existence, the 1923 Razor Blade. Next to it is the uncompromising hypercar "Valkyrie".
One of the first cars to be developed from an aerodynamic point of view, the pioneering Razor Blade with its Aston Martin Grand Prix engine set numerous class records at Brooklands in 1923, a year after Aston Martin made its Grand Prix debut with the TT1, nicknamed the "Green Pea". A century later, Aston Martin continues to break new ground with its exciting high-performance models, bringing Formula 1™ technology to the road with its era-defining Aston Martin Valkyrie.
The carmaker's 110th anniversary will be celebrated with a new and strictly limited exclusive Aston Martin model to be unveiled later this year. This milestone in the company's history will also be commemorated at various events, including the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and other major events in Aston Martin's core regions. All of this is part of a global marketing campaign with the motto "Intensity: 110 Years in the Making".
2023 promises to be a historic year as Aston Martin unveils the first model of a highly anticipated new generation of sports cars - another Aston Martin statement of luxury, performance and driving experience.
Amedeo Felisa, Chief Executive Officer of Aston Martin Lagonda, comments: "Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford came together in 1913 because they had a shared vision of racing cars. They wanted to use the knowledge gained from the race track to push the possibilities of automobiles as far as possible.
Today, 110 years later and with just over 110,000 cars built, that spirit lives on. The 110th year should be just as exciting as the first, as we write a new chapter in Aston Martin's history: a new generation of sports cars and the launch of an extraordinary special edition model."
In addition to the 110th anniversary, 2023 offers several other highlights, as the DB series turns 75 at the same time and the legendary DB5 celebrates its 60th birthday. It will also be the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Aston Martin headquarters in Gaydon, which was built specifically as a center of excellence for sports car design and engineering at the highest level.
