Idyllic Arosa will soon be transformed once again into the "Little Monaco" of the Alps. Then, when the 18th Arosa ClassicCar takes place from September 1 to 4, 2022 and classic car fans make the pilgrimage to the Graubünden mountain village. The starting field is promising again this year, with enormous interest in the run-up to the event. More than 170 drivers will be negotiating the 76 bends between Langwies and Arosa this year.
Unique vehicle density and exciting personalities
The fascination of Arosa ClassicCar is unbroken: Well over 200 entries have been received by the race secretariat. This year's selection was particularly difficult for those responsible. Markus Markwalder, OC President, comments: "We were overwhelmed by the number and attractiveness of the entries. And of course we are proud to be able to present such a strong field of riders again this year."
It will be exciting for spectators in the Competition category. Thomas Amweg will start there with his new formula car. Whether he tries to break his own track record or is cautious after last year's mishap will be revealed on site. Niki Schelle, the German rally driver and GRIP presenter, apparently enjoyed filming the TV show so much last year that he is back at the start this year. And this time not as co-driver and coach to Cyndie Allemann.
With over 170 vehicles, there are numerous gems on display. A visit to the two paddocks is definitely not to be missed. There you can not only marvel at the valuable vehicles, but also look over the mechanics' shoulders as they carry out the finishing touches or talk shop with the owners.
Focus on sustainability
This year, the organizers are focusing particularly intensively on the topic of sustainability. This is a high priority in Arosa, as the Arosa 2030 sustainability strategy makes clear. The aim is to reduce negative influences as much as possible without sacrificing the benefits.
For Roland Schuler, Tourism Director, it is also clear: "We are pursuing a holistic approach. Economic, ecological and social factors should be in harmony. The Arosa ClassicCar is our biggest summer event and generates enormous added value". Various measures are already being implemented.
For example, those responsible have decided not to use plastic badges this year. Instead, the name badges will be produced by the company Swiss Wood Solutions AG this year. And they will be made from Swiss wood. In addition to the revised waste concept, reusable cups are now also being used for spectator catering.
The riders can make an important contribution by offsetting their race runs. It is important to take these first steps towards a more sustainable future and to continue to develop the event in the long term.
Fast-paced and extraordinary experiences
Thanks to car partner Porsche, fast-paced experiences are once again possible this year. A ride in a race cab promises pure adrenaline. This is ensured by the Porsche race cab drivers who open the race. This year, two internationally renowned Swiss racing drivers will be at the wheel. Neel Jani, Porsche works driver, FIA Endurance World Champion and Le Mans winner, and three-time Le Mans winner Marcel Fässler will ensure lasting memories. Other experienced instructors include former Ski World Cup winner Daniel Mahrer.
The rides in the race cab are highly coveted and registration is strongly recommended. For those who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere, the covered VIP area is the place to be. Here, guests not only enjoy the best view of the finishing bend, but are also treated to culinary delights on site by the Golf- und Sporthotel Hof Maran. An exceptional experience for connoisseurs who appreciate something special.
Information for visiting the Arosa ClassicCar
Grandstand tickets and VIP packages are also available online this year. The organizers recommend travelling by public transport, as the route between Langwies and Arosa is closed to traffic during the races.
This year, the starting area in Langwies is even more attractive for visitors. Thanks to a large screen, the course of the race can be followed, and the speaker also ensures a good atmosphere. A shuttle bus will run between Arosa and Langwies with various stops along the route as well as between the train station in Langwies and the start area. This means that the race can also be watched directly at one of the key points. Various catering options are available in the start and finish area, the event hall and in the numerous surrounding businesses.
