60 years ago, on February 26, 1966, the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA) was founded in Paris.
What once began as an association of a few national organizations is now the global umbrella organization for historic vehicles - with representatives in over 90 countries on all continents and more than two million members. In addition to the national associations, FIVA also has numerous professional partners, including leading car manufacturers, suppliers, museums and international rally and event organizers.
Particularly noteworthy is the long-standing cooperation with UNESCO, which resulted in a comprehensive cultural partnership and advisory NGO status in 2017. Since 2022, there has also been a partnership with TICCIH (The International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage).
Even in the face of new challenges - alternative fuels, green technologies, sustainable restoration and responsible use of historic vehicles - FIVA continues to campaign internationally for the protection and future of our automotive heritage.
The official celebrations for the 60th anniversary will take place in November 2026 as part of the FIVA Annual General Meeting in Brussels - together with the Belgian ANF BEHVA.
As the German ANF, ADAC Klassik, together with representatives of the German FIVA founding members, the Allgemeiner Schnauferl-Club Deutschland (ASC) and the Deutscher Automobil-Veteranen-Club (DAVC), will organize a FIVA theme day at Retro Classics Essen (April 8-12, 2026) on Saturday, April 11.
At the joint FIVA/ADAC stand, there will be a look back at 60 years of the world association as well as an outlook on the future challenges of mobile cultural heritage - and then, of course, there will be a toast to FIVA's 60th birthday.
Further information can be found on the ADAC and FIVA websites.
