The Lenzerheide Motor Classics are celebrating a small anniversary this year: the sound of rattling engines and squealing tires will envelop the Lenzerheide vacation region for the 5th time from 10 to 12 June 2016. The 160 or so starting places were already taken before the regular registration deadline. In addition to historic vehicles, spectators can also look forward to an air show with nostalgic Piaggio P149D and Pilatus PC-7 aircraft.
In the spirit of motorsport
For the fifth time, the Lenzerheide vacation region will be dedicated to motorsport for a weekend. At the Lenzerheide Motor Classics, historic racing and sports cars as well as racing motorcycles will be presented on the 2.45-kilometre circuit between Lenzerheide and the Rothorn valley station. The Lenzerheide Motor Classics are not actually speed races, but rather the impressive performance of the historic vehicles causes quite a stir.
The registered vehicles will be presented for the first time on Friday evening, June 10, 2016 from 6 p.m. during the guided vehicle parade through Lenzerheide. The subsequent presentation will take place again this year in the village center on the Voa Principala and offers the opportunity to view the special cars up close. On Saturday and Sunday, June 11 and 12, 2016, several demonstration drives will take place from 8.25 am to 5.50 pm.
In addition to original vehicles by Silvio Moser and Henri Pescarolo, there are many other rarities among the 200 or so registered vehicles.
Kevin Jörg, an active GP3 driver, will also be taking part in this year's performance shows. The 20-year-old is already being touted as a future Swiss Formula 1 driver and will complete his laps in Lenzerheide in a March-BMW 782 F2.
Air show and race taxi rides provide an adrenaline rush
At this year's Lenzerheide Motor Classcis, not only fans of historic vehicles will get their money's worth. On Saturday and Sunday at around 1.45 pm, there will be air shows with Piaggio P149D and Pilatus PC-7 aircraft. The formation will take off from St. Gallen-Altenrhein airfield. A 15-minute flight demonstration over the Heidsee is planned.
The fascinating performance shows can be watched free of charge in the special spectator areas along the route. For particularly interested spectators, a visit to the paddock at the Rothorn valley station is well worthwhile. Here, professionals and amateurs can exchange ideas and talk shop about the old and historic vehicles. Or you can experience the Lenzerheide Motor Classics up close in a race cab and from the driver's perspective; adrenaline and racing fever are pre-programmed. For CHF 100, motorsport fans can take a ride in a sports car with a licensed racing driver.
