As the only independent international Concours d'Elégance in Germany, the ASC-Classic-Gala Schwetzingen has made the unique circular Baroque Park world-famous in the automotive scene. Because only in Schwetzingen are the participating vehicles lined up according to year of manufacture and theme groups to face the vote of the 25-member international jury of experts according to FIVA criteria.
The name Classic Gala stands for selected exhibits, dignified elegance, culinary delights, music, fashion, selected offers and an exclusive experience for the whole family in the incomparable ambience of one of the most beautiful palace parks in the world.
From September 2 to 4, 2022, the ASC Classic Gala Schwetzingen will focus on Bertone, Röhr and Cadillac.
110 years of Carrozzeria Bertone
Some of Nuccio Bertone's most beautiful creations will be on display in Schwetzingen. This will commemorate important milestones in automobile design, including a FIAT visitor bus for the factory, a prototype Mazda MX 81 family coupé and many others.
Among the vehicles on display will be the Fiat Dino Coupé and the NSU Sportprinz, the Lancia Stratos, various Lamborghinis and various Alfa Romeos.
Röhr Automobile - luxury class from Ober-Ramstadt
For the first time in more than 50 years, more than ten Röhr automobiles will come together to present the entire history of the ambitious manufacturer from the Odenwald. Among them are unique pieces that have never been exhibited in the open air before, such as the Type 8 RA Aerable Monobloc from the 1930 Paris Motor Show.
Or the aerodynamically body-painted Röhr "Olympier" by Autenrieth, which also adorns the event poster by Japanese automobile designer Hideo Kodama together with a Lamborghini Miura.
120 years of Cadillac - a festival of American luxury
Even the first Cadillac in 1902 was intended to be better than other automobiles. But at the latest with the appearance of the four-cylinder models in 1909, Cadillac claimed to be the "Standard of the World" - the benchmark for the world. With the first production V-8 in 1915 at the latest, the brand strove for the top, topping it in 1930 with a V-16 and displacing Packard from the top spot by 1935.
Classic-Gala Schwetzingen showcases the most beautiful Cadillacs from 120 years of American automobile history and also offers the appropriate music and clothing.
Rarities from all decades
Classic-Gala Schwetzingen is characterized by unique pieces from times long past:
In 2022, these include the Röhr "Tatzelwurm" from the 1930s, the Maier Leichtbau from 1936 and the prototype for a small Glas as the successor to the former Glas Isar 600 from the 1960s. Of particular interest is the prototype of a Graham Lachmont Tourer from 1922, which was stored dry for more than 45 years and has now arrived in Schwetzingen from Austria completely unrestored.
The rivals from the 1957 IAA, the BMW 507 and Mercedes 300 SL Roadster, are also on display alongside the 300 SL Gullwing. Fittingly, a Mercedes 170 V from estate car specialist Miesen with a Westfalia Maß trailer illustrates how a UniMoG workshop van was equipped in the 1950s.
An open Hispano-Suiza H6 and a Mercedes Nürburg 500 as a Pullman limousine from 1931 represent the pinnacle of automotive technology in the early 1930s.
NSU 4-cylinder for car and motorcycle
Friends of the NSU brand can admire the variants of the series of four-cylinder models that began with the 1000 C and led via the sports engine of the TT to genuine racing cars from Thurner and Brixner and to the world's most powerful motorcycle, the Münch Mammut.
The NSU Sportprinz, whose Coupé Bertone was also used as the basis for the NSU Wankelspider, serves as a link to the Bertone special show.
Opel - from doctor's car to luxury class king
Opel showcases the construction of customized automobiles with six rarities. The oldest exhibit is an Opel Doktorwagen from before the First World War, complemented by two Opel Kapitän from the late 1930s as a limousine and convertible and an unrestored Opel Super 6 Pullman from 1937.
The Opel Diplomat A Coupe by Karmann and an Admiral A with the Diplomat's V8 engine, of which only very few were built, also belonged to the luxury class.
The special show by Mercedes-Benz-IG is dedicated to the first Mercedes, officially called the S-Class, which went into series production 50 years ago as the W116, or better known as the 350 SE.
