The first Targa Florio through the Sicilian mountains took place on May 6, 1906. The 100th edition of the world's oldest road race will now be held from May 5 to 8 and the anniversary edition promises to be a four-day motorsport event of superlatives.
Famous vehicles and drivers
Today's Targa Florio Classic is of course no longer the dangerous road race it once was, but there are still plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in the race's glorious past. The Sicilian roads are transformed into a catwalk for exceptional vehicles and drivers from the world of historic motorsport. Not only can the adrenaline required for the competition be felt with Sicilian charm, there is also plenty of art, nature, history and tradition to discover.
Some particularly beautiful and historic cars from the years 1906 to 1970 are admitted to the regularity races. With these vehicles, the emotions of the Targa Florio can be revived.
Varied program
Participants and spectators can expect a program packed with historic vehicles and the most beautiful Sicilian sights. On May 5, the vehicles will be prepared for the first stage on May 6 and there will be an initial celebration to mark the 100th edition. The next day, the route starts in Palermo along the charming "Circuito delle Madonie" and back to the city. On May 7, the journey continues towards Agrigento before taking the participants back to Palermo in the afternoon. The third and final stage of the Targa Florio Classic takes the historic vehicles from Floriopoli to Cerda before they reach the finish in Palermo in the evening.
With its timeless cars, the Targa Florio Classic is an extraordinary journey through motorsport history. It's great that the legend will be brought to life again this year for four days.
