From 1924 to 1956, a renowned Concours d'Elegance was held on the shores of Lake Geneva, a tradition that is now to be revived 60 years later. From June 18 to 19, 2016, the first Concours d'Elegance Suisse will take place at the Château de Coppet, in accordance with the official rules of the most important automobile events of this kind.
18 classes and a world first
With the Talbot Lago 150C from 1938, a unique vehicle is presented to the general public for the first time at the first Concours d'Elegance in Switzerland. The remarkable exhibition vehicle, known for its elegance, was designed by George Paulin and built by one of the greatest French coachbuilders, Marcel Pourtout.
The cars can compete against each other in a total of 18 different classes. There is an exclusive class for the legendary Hispano-Suiza, a car brand founded by a Geneva family. The Concours is also celebrating four 50th anniversaries with its own class, including that of the Lamborghini Miura, the star of the Geneva Motor Show, the Maserati Ghibli and the Jensen Interceptor.
The Concours is also celebrating a world premiere with the "Future Classics" class, which includes cars from 1975 to 1985.
Concours on Lake Geneva
During the two-day event, owners and enthusiasts of rare cars will have the opportunity to share their passion for classic vehicles. The event begins on Saturday morning with a Tour d'Elegance along Lake Geneva. From 2 p.m. onwards, a renowned jury with various personalities from the automotive world will inspect the vehicles.
It is already known that with Adolfo Orsi as jury president and Ed Gilbertson as honorary jury member, two very familiar faces from the Concours scene will be represented. While Adolfo Orsi is a jury member at the Concours d'Elegance Villa d'Este, Ed Gilbertson regularly sits on the jury of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The participation of jury members from two of the most important events in the classic car world leaves no doubt that the first Swiss Concours d'Elégance will secure its place in the international annual calendar.
The Concours will open its doors to the general public at 10.00 a.m. on Sunday. Admission costs CHF 20, children up to the age of 12 are free. The Concours d'Elegance ends with the award ceremony and the Best of Show Trophy at 2.00 pm.
