Design jewel from Gandini
€
Following the presentation of the visionary prototype at the World Exhibition in Montreal in 1967, Alfa Romeo decided to add the top-of-the-range model to its model range due to the positive response from the public. The young designer Gandini, who had created a design of the century with the Lamborghini Miura, was given a completely free hand with this project. Once the design of the sports car had been finalized, a suitable engine still had to be found. The V8 engine of the Typo 33 was the obvious choice, but it still had to be tamed into a road-going version.
After the presentation of a near-series vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show in 1970, deliveries of the vehicles could finally begin in spring 1971. The vehicle offered here is one of the first 100 Montreals to be delivered without a front spoiler. This makes the lines of the design even more recognizable. The interior also still features the early triangular window opening mechanisms and the beige trunk carpet.
In addition to the well-preserved exterior with largely original paint in the color AR603 Arancio, the interior is also in its original condition. The original black wool seat covers meet the likewise original light gray carpet. Only the first models have these features. The contemporary Voxson stereo 8 cassette radio with Voxson loudspeakers and electric aerial is also present.
The original mileage of 78,000 km is proof of the car's good condition. The power unit of the tamed 200 hp V8 2.6 l racing engine with four overhead camshafts, dry sump lubrication and mechanical injection system is also in good condition.
Originally registered in Verona, the car has been in Germany since 2012. Since then, it has always been professionally maintained and serviced by specialists for classic Alfa Romeo sports cars. The somewhat overtaxed chassis has been carefully and conscientiously optimized. By using Bilstein sports dampers and reinforcing the front stabilizers, a considerably safer and sportier driving experience was achieved. In addition, the mechanical SPICA injection pump was completely overhauled. The brake system and the two electric fuel pumps were also renewed, with a focus on maximum originality.
The final engine adjustments were carried out by Mauro Capuozzo, the well-known Alfa specialist from Berlin. In addition, a complete cavity preservation with Mike Sanders oil was carried out. In 2021, the Monti also received a new set of Vredestein Sprint Classic tires.
The original Italian registration and insurance documents are present, as is the original owner's manual. This is supplemented by an original German version and the original German sales brochure.
