Triumph TR 2 with over 201 km/h
In 1953, Standard Motor Co. Ltd. invited a dozen journalists to Belgium for speed tests. The measurements were carried out on a two-lane concrete road in Belgium, which was closed for this purpose. The aim of the measurements was to demonstrate the capabilities of the new Triumph T.R.2. sports car.
Many memories of a fortnight's drive through Germany in a 'Triumph TR 2' remain vivid: the deep, powerful roar when the two-liter engine exceeds 2000 rpm; the astonished faces in the rear-view mirror when driving through towns; the pressure on the back when the accelerator pedal is depressed - even at 130 km/h; and a speed on the autobahn that very few other cars can achieve. This is a car that delights the heart and satisfies the sense of self! A car in which two people can travel quickly and safely. The Hobby report from 1955 is one of the first published driving experiences in German.
