With the Maserati A6G 2000/54, the Italian racing and sports car manufacturer from Modena also received recognition from sports car drivers. Beautiful bodywork and an engine with around 125 hp provided the basis for this. Pietro Frua bodyworked ten of these A6G/54s with spider bodies. Number 1 is being auctioned by Bonhams in Quail Lodge. The car could become the most expensive vehicle ever sold by the famous coachbuilder. This report documents the interesting car and shows it in historical and current pictures.
Only four examples of the Maserati A6G 2000/54 Gran Sport Coupé with Frua bodywork were built in the 1950s, one of which was thought to have been lost. The car recently reappeared as part of the Roger Baillon collection in unrestored but complete condition. This report goes in search of clues and explains the history of the rare coupé. Pictures show the car then and now.
