At the end of the 1960s, Italian Alfredo Belponer wanted to realize his dream of building his own endurance sports car. However, despite a promising design and prominent support, the project failed during the development phase - as did the attempted revival five years later. While the "Panther" went into circulation thousands of times as a Politoys toy, the life-size original remained a one-off. This article from the series "Technology in racing cars from 1958 to 1978" presents the ambitious but thwarted three-liter prototype and shows it in historical footage.
The Fiat 850 Spider was one of the most successful sports cars of its era. It was built by Bertone and this offered opportunities for special versions. One of these was the Bertone Racer Berlinetta, basically a Spider with a fixed tin roof. This was particularly popular in the USA, but also made many friends in Germany. In contrast to today, the situation in 1980 was exactly the opposite: Lamborghini was in troubled waters and Bertone was doing well. Nuccio Bertone therefore "donated" the Athon study based on the Urraco/Silhouette to the traditional company from Sant'Agata Bolognese at his own expense. However, the Athon was neither built in series nor did it influence future Lamborghini models. Nevertheless, it became a milestone: not for Lamborghini, but for Bertone. Mazda MX-81 - Air supremacy

In 1983, Zagato and Bertone each presented an Alfa Romeo coupé with a V6 engine at the Geneva Motor Show. The two designs could hardly have been more different. Despite close-to-production technology, neither prototype made it into series production and today they are long forgotten.
Tom Tjaarda led the way in 1963 in the service of Pininfarina and designed the Italian interpretation of the Corvette Sting Ray with the Rondine. After the open-top VW Golf had established the genre of the compact bow-top convertible in 1979, the European competition gradually began to cut the roof off their hatchback saloons as well. Bertone Kayak - Booted out
With the Kayak, Bertone wanted to return the Fiat subsidiary Lancia, which was slowly drifting into arbitrariness, to its former glory. The technology and design language were deliberately kept close to series production so that the coupé version of the Lancia Kappa could go into production. However, Lancia ultimately preferred its own design.
