Dune buggies were primarily invented for fun off-road driving and were seen as a fun alternative to serious, all-wheel-drive off-road vehicles. As a rule, they were built on a shortened VW chassis and also powered by its air-cooled rear engine. In 1970, Automobil Revue drove an early Dune Buggy of the Autodynamics Deserter type optimized for Switzerland and gained very positive impressions, as the text faithfully reproduced here shows.
