From 1968 to 1977, Alfa Romeo built the Berlina as a larger version of the Giulia with engines of 1.8 and 2 liters. As a sporty saloon with comfort requirements, the powerful four-door model was aimed at a discerning clientele that purchased over 190,000 units. Nevertheless, the classic architecture with engine/transmission at the front and drive axle at the rear died with the Berlina and Giulia at Alfa Romeo at the end of the 1970s. 1971 saw the launch of the Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV, the final evolutionary stage of the Giulia Sprint GT, which had first been presented in 1963. The Alfa Romeo GTV 2000 was the most powerful model in the coupé series produced between 1963 and 1976, which was designed by Bertone.
