ZIS, ZIL 1936-2000 - for the nomenklatura of the Stalin era
Summary
There were around 10,000 car brands and designers - most of them have disappeared. One of these lost brands is ZIS, later called ZIL. The large truck factory ZIS emerged from the Soviet AMO plant, which produced luxury limousines for the top state leadership from 1936. After Stalin's death, ZIS was renamed ZIL. Many models were constructed and by around the year 2000, 11500 ZIS and ZIL had been sold.

The large Soviet truck factory ZIS = Zawod Imeni Stalina or Stalin Factory emerged from the AMO factory founded in Moscow in 1916. From 1936, it also built luxury limousines for the top state leadership, which was apostrophized as the nomenklatura. The ZIS 101 was more or less a Buick copy stretched to 575 cm, which also applied to the in-line eight-cylinder engine enlarged to 5750 cm3. This was further developed in small steps, as was the appearance of the ZIS. The ZIS 110, built from 1946 onwards, was derived from a Packard Super Eight procured from the USA during the Second World War, for which both the right and the technical resources were obtained as America's ally. There were also derivatives of the ZIS 110, such as convertibles and ambulances.
