Summary
There were around 10,000 car brands and designers - most of them have disappeared. Vignale can also be counted among these vanished brands. Alfredo Vignale created magnificent special bodies, built cars in small series and produced a large number of unique collector's items.

Preview (beginning of the article)
After earning his spurs at Stabilimenti Farina, Alfredo Vignale founded his own body shop in Turin in 1948. He created magnificent special bodies for Ferrari and Lancia, built the convertible version of the Maserati 3500 GT and the Maserati Sebring, Mexico and Indy models in small series. Vignale thus established itself alongside the other famous body names Pinin Farina, Ghia, Bertone, Touring and Zagato. Vignale also produced "Fuoriserie" models of the Fiat 500 to 750 rear-engined small cars, and a large number of one-offs were created for enthusiasts based on the larger Fiat and Alfa Romeo models as well as prototypes for foreign manufacturers. Giovanni Michelotti was one of the external design collaborators.
