Preview (beginning of the article)
RM Auctions auctioned 126 vehicles, including a motorcycle and a boat, over two days at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa on January 16-17, 2014. 107 lots were sold, with the highest bid averaging 88% of the median estimate. The total proceeds from the sale amounted to USD 45 million (EUR 33.7 million, CHF 41.5 million). On average, buyers paid USD 426,014 (Euro 315,250 or CHF 387,672) per vehicle. The most expensive car sold was the Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spder from 1958 with chassis number 1055 GT for USD 8.8 million (including mark-ups/commissions). Overall, those responsible at RM could therefore be satisfied, although some of the bids fell well short of expectations and some of the auction highlights could not be sold.
