Steyr 1920-1940 - resistant Austrian constructor
Summary
There were around 10,000 car brands and designers - most of them have disappeared. One of these vanished brands is Steyr. Steyr cars were the product of an Austrian arms factory, as it was no longer allowed to manufacture weapons of war. Steyr was also the brand under which the world's first mass-produced streamlined car was made.

The Steyr trucks with the characterful angular cabs and the asymmetrically positioned radiator grille - the work of the ingenious all-round industrial designer Louis L. Lepoix - can still be seen today. But Austria once had its own passenger car industry, just like Switzerland. And it resisted pressure from foreign large-scale manufacturers for much longer. Steyr brand cars were available from 1920 and were the product of the Oesterreichische Waffenfabriks-Gesellschaft in Steyr. After the peace treaty that sealed the end of the First World War, the company was left with nothing. This was because Austria, like Germany, had been banned from manufacturing weapons of war.
